Accommodations

Sofico can accommodate 11 guests in four double cabins and 1 twin cabin with a Pullman berth. All cabins have full en suite facilities.

Her interior has elegant touches and features Canaletto walnut and natural cherry wood panelling along with parquet floors inlaid with silk carpeting. A large saloon has comfortable seating, a bar and entertainment centre while forward is a dining area with formal seating for 10 guests.

Joel is an experienced Captain and engineer with more than 20 years in the industry on sailing and motor yachts both private and charter and has vast experience of cruising in France, Italy, Spain, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans as well as the Caribbean Sea, Mexico, Miami and Florida.
Joel who is Canadian has a background in blue water big game fishing with different techniques in trolling, bait rigging and gear rigging.
He is also a PADI open water diving instructor, master scuba diver as well as qualified sailing instructor.
Joel spent last season onboard a private 48 metre yacht cruising the Mediterranean and Africa.

CHEF: Alida Dalmazzo-Auckland - Hungarian

For the past three years Alida has worked as a sole chef in Dubai, Oman and the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as the South of France on yachts both private and charter from 30m to 55m. She has just finished a winter season as head chef on the 55m private yachts M/Y Samax in Thailand. Alida takes great pride in sourcing the freshest ingredients and tailors her menus around local produce. She also cooks for a variety of dietary requirements such as vegetarian, keto, paleo, gluten-free low carb etc. Her cooking styles are varied: Mediterranean, Asian, Indian, Italian, Modern American and many more.

CHIEF STEWARDESS: Winalyn Castro - Filipino
Joined Spring 2019
Winalyn joined her first yacht some 15 years ago as stewardess onboard the busy private yacht M/Y White Rabbit Echo. She admits that the challenges she faced were enormous but her ambition and determined nature resulted in her learning each task quickly and efficiently. As her experience grew, Winalyn accumulated the skills she needed for her to advance in her field which motivated her to take on more responsibility.
Now Chief Stewardess for nearly 9 years Winalyn always enjoys leading by example and prides herself on motivating her fellow crew members and keeping an upbeat professional vibe. When spare time allows, Winalyn enjoys yoga, watersports, world cuisine, reading and travel.

Roa has worked in several child minding and housekeeping positions and now brings those valuable skills to the yachting industry.
Adaptable, determined and flexible of character, Roa is a perfect fit for this vibrant crew of 9 on board Sofico, she is looking forward to an exciting season ahead. Originally from the Philippines, she has a passion for travel that has seen her visiting countries such as Turkey, Montenegro, Spain, Greece, France and Italy! Her other interests include photography, cooking, reading and playing the guitar!

CHIEF OFFICER: Carel Barnard - South African
Joined Spring 2019
Carel joined the yachting industry over 10 years ago when he landed his first job as lead deckhand on board M/Y Haida G. From there, he climbed the ranks, learning every step of the way. Carel has taken his chosen career path in a responsible manner and enrolled for all the relevant courses and exams and now has the converted Officer of the Watch 3000GT certificate.
These years of hard work have seen Carel travel thousands of nautical miles and many ocean passages, a part of the job that Carel finds “inspirational.” He believes that his determination and ability to deal with problems efficiently and effectively can break any challenge that is thrown his way without drama and thrives on sharing his positive vibes with his fellow crew members. In his spare time, Carel loves to keep fit and when time allows, travel would always be his first choice.

William joins M/Y Sofico after completing a successful period on board M/Y Quid Pro Quo in 2016/17 and brings with him over 20 years of engineering experience. Prior to working in yachting, William was involved in the motorcycle industry and today he is still a motor bike enthusiast.
William has worked on yachts such as M/Y Q95 (46m), M/Y Blu 470 (50m) M/Y Lady Britt (63m) and he has also been involved in many major re-fits. William’s hobbies include motor bikes and travelling.

BOSUN: Longelo Lusares – Filipino
Joined Spring 2013
Longelo studied for a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation before joining as a deck cadet M/S Peter the Apostle a passenger/cargo ship.
In 2006 he decided to transfer to luxury yachting and joined as deckhand the 44m Catamaran M/Y Moecca. Since then he has made his way up the career ladder becoming mate and in 2013 chief officer on M/Y Sofico.
Longelo sees himself as a leader and values integrity, teamwork and support for his fellow crew members. Previous Yachts: M/Y Texas (44m), M/Y Maridome (56m), M/Y Lady Feryal (44m)

Originally from Australia, Dylan is relatively new to yachting but his experience in high-end hospitality in different parts of the world have exposed him to the kind of pressures and challenges expected on board. He describes himself as hard working, punctual and determined, priding himself as a key member in any team.
Dylan’s main hobbies are sports – to include all water sports, skiing, football and cycling. He is also a handy cook and knows how to mix a killer cocktail!
