Privé Guide to Yacht Chartering

How to Charter a Yachts

We, at Privé Yachts, understand that private yacht charter can be a daunting process at first but we are here to help you every step of the way. You may find that chartering the super yacht or mega yacht of your dreams is a lot easier than you think.

Selecting Your Charter Yacht

A few things to consider:

After determining your yacht charter specifications, take some time to browse our Privé Charter Collection and select a few of your favorite yachts. Next, contact your Privé Yacht charter agent as soon as possible to ensure the availability of your yacht of choice. Or you can simply call Privé Yacht as soon as you have determined your specifications and we will gladly select yachts and develop an itinerary that meets your requirements.

Booking Your Privé Yacht Charter

Once the best yacht has been selected for your charter vacation and you are ready to reserve, there are a few easy steps that follow.

Charter Agreement

The terms of your charter are typically based on the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA) charter agreement, an industry standard. The charter terms includes the charter of the vessel, crew wages, insurance of the yacht, insurance of the crew, and basic consumables. Once you have signed the contract, it is then sent to the owner for their signature.

APA

Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due one month prior to the charter date and is typically 30% of the charter fee. The APA is given the yacht captain before the start of the charter and is used to pay for operating expenses such as fuel, berthing fees, customs, food and beverage, port fees, ad hoc incidentals, and other costs not coved by the charter fee. The captain will keep track of all expenses and provide receipts when possible. A detailed expense report will be presented at the end of the charter. Whatever unused APA funds that remain at the end of the trip will be returned to the charterer and similarly, any remaining balance that exceeds the APA will be paid immediately by the charterer before disembarking.

Preference Form

To ensure your yacht charter experience is everything you hope for, a preference form will be sent to you prior to your trip. The questionnaire specifies food and beverage preferences, medical conditions, sporting and entertainment requests and any all the other details that make your yachting experience truly memorable. The form is passed on to the captain and crew who will ensure that every detail of your luxury yacht charter is in order prior to boarding.

Insurance

Cancellation insurance and Curtailment insurance is highly recommended.

Gratuities

Gratuities are left to your discretion but typically range from 10-20% of the charter fee based on the quality of service.
